Adopt a WFMU DJ!

Posted in jersey city, music on February 26th, 2010 by emily – Be the first to comment

The annual WFMU pledge drive is ON, man. If you are a local Jersey City resident then you must already be listening. However, if you are a blog reader from way over yonder elsewhere, then you are going to want to start listening online. And when you do, you will see how wonderful free form radio really is. These guys host so much content streaming off their site, its unbelievable. Heroes, all. Ever since the fall of the old WHTG FM106.3, WFMU has been my only hope. And it has never disappointed.

As part of the pledge drive, you can adopt a WFMU DJ. However, via their flickr page I have found you this guy to adopt instead. He is a silent co-host and we are in love. So, do your part and click away! You'll get great swag and good karma in the process.

More information on adopting Bosco:

"Bosco" is the furry co-host of Meghan's Underwater Theme Park. He is a silent co-host, but he tries to help out as much as he can! Help him out too by adopting him!

If you would like to adopt Bosco, please make a paid-in-full pledge of $180 or more to WFMU's 2010 Marathon by 11:59pm on March 7th, 2010, and then send an email via this page to stake your claim. Make sure that you specify in the email that you'd like Bosco

Jersey City Craft Mafia at Fourth Street Arts Fest

Posted in jersey city, jersey city craft mafia on October 19th, 2009 by emily – Be the first to comment
On the weekend of October 3rd, the Jersey City Craft Mafia manned a tent in the rain during the JC Village 4th Street Art & Music Festival in Downtown Jersey City. The day was almost completely rained out, but we stubbornly held our ground, hanging plastic sheeting and banding together to fjord the massive puddles in the parking lot. In spite of the rain, there were two stages of music, lots of vendors, and a lot of festival goers that came by in support once the rain let up. It was really terrible as far as sales go, but I made the best of it, and after the sun went down, I packed everything up and came back with friends to catch more music.

And of course, my stuff for sale from Emily August.
This is my lovely roommate, Allison of notenoughspoons.com, who sat with me through the rain and hung out most of the day at my table.  Rory also got up early, helped me haul my stuff to the venue, went and got me breakfast, and hung out for a bit as well.

The lovely green tablecloth on our table was embroidered by Johanna's grandmother.

I only had time to take a picture of one band before my batteries died, and I happened to catch Dancing Tony from Rock-it Docket in the act of video-graphing the scene!

As you may or may not know, LITM, a local bar, restaurant, and art gallery in downtown Jersey City, asked me to come and photograph all of their monthly art openings. This is the latest: a team of three tattoo artists and friends displaying pen and ink, airbrushed, and mixed media pieces. Enjoy the photos of work by Tim, Russel and Ruler and get down to LITM to check it out in person. Particularly of note: Russel Kelley's painting of a Saturday Evening Post Rockwell cover was a knockout.

With the change of seasons, I've found respite in life away from the Internet. I'm trying to force myself back to Earth, but relishing in a change of pace in the meantime. I have a lot of work to do for the upcoming Craft Mafia event this weekend, and Rory and I have also been trying to get out and explore the Great Outdoors. Just this weekend, Rory and I went for a jog in 80-degree sunshine in Liberty State Park, grabbed delicious Indian food in Journal Square, and spent more time than we meant to with friends. I missed a few of my obligations because we timed things poorly, but it was still really nice to spend the weekend together.

I am feeling great lately. This is such a nice change from the consistently cold, miserable weather we've had otherwise!

Mausen and Scout at Work

At work, we are finishing a few big projects and I'm tackling a change of guard in a few key areas of our business development. Everything has been ramping up and taking off, and our hard work is paying off. Its a really nice feeling all around.

The photo above was taken from my new Blackberry Storm. Those are my coworkers, Scout and Mausen, relaxing on some shipping materials from print materials I designed. Having a Blackberry is a totally new experience for me, and it is contributing to my overall sense of "having it together". I love it!

Art Attack / Jersey City — help needed!

Posted in craft, jersey city on March 10th, 2009 by emily august – Be the first to comment

April 26th in downtown Jersey City

I think we are full up on vendors already for this event, though applications close this Monday, but what we are really in need of is some craftily-minded volunteers for the day. Read below for my repost of the Craft Mafia’s request (penned by Luca) and let me know if you want to help out and meet some amazing folks!

Hey there! The Jersey City Craft Mafia is seeking a few good girls and guys to assist our vendors and patrons with various set-up and event coordination tasks, including checking customers in, helping artists get their goods into the building, temporary table-sitting for solo vendors, and the like.

In return, you will be recognized in our event program and receive a free ad, get a free tote bag filled with swag, and have lunch on us.

If you or someone you know is available Sunday, April 26 from 11am until 7pm and wants to participate, please have them contact artattack@jerseycitycraftmafia.com for more details. This opportunity is only available to non-vendors, as running a table and trying to run the show may get a bit hectic

Pompadour Contest at Balance and World of Style Vintage

Posted in jersey city on March 8th, 2009 by emily august – Be the first to comment

leigh allison and james

We have had a very crazy weekend here in Jersey City. It started off purposely slow, with a laundry date with my partner-in-crime, Miss Allison. This was timed so that we could jump around the corner to visit our friends James and Leigh who were rocking pompadours for Balance Hair Salon and World of Style Vintage on Erie Street. From there my weekend got extremely wacky, so this was a good indication of things to come. Love how these pictures turned out, despite not bringing along an auxillary flash.

James is my internet superstar pal from the wildly popular Jersey City blog Draw & Quarter. Leigh is our neighbor who apparently has amazing cats (among other great qualities). We only stayed for a bit, before the party really got started but we will definitely be checking out more Balance events, because they are too beyond amazing to ignore.

I think the Spring and Summer JC Fridays events are going to keep getting more and more fun. The whole town goes crazy on the first Friday of every month, so that’s the perfect time for you friends and lurkers to come check out our ‘hood. ‘Do it up.
