Jersey City Craft Mafia at Fourth Street Arts Fest

On the weekend of October 3rd, the Jersey City Craft Mafia manned a tent in the rain during the JC Village 4th Street Art & Music Festival in Downtown Jersey City. The day was almost completely rained out, but we stubbornly held our ground, hanging plastic sheeting and banding together to fjord the massive puddles in the parking lot. In spite of the rain, there were two stages of music, lots of vendors, and a lot of festival goers that came by in support once the rain let up. It was really terrible as far as sales go, but I made the best of it, and after the sun went down, I packed everything up and came back with friends to catch more music.

And of course, my stuff for sale from Emily August.
This is my lovely roommate, Allison of notenoughspoons.com, who sat with me through the rain and hung out most of the day at my table.  Rory also got up early, helped me haul my stuff to the venue, went and got me breakfast, and hung out for a bit as well.

The lovely green tablecloth on our table was embroidered by Johanna's grandmother.

I only had time to take a picture of one band before my batteries died, and I happened to catch Dancing Tony from Rock-it Docket in the act of video-graphing the scene!

Getting ready for Art Attack!

feather button hair combs

So, I painstakingly spent my Saturday afternoon getting high on epoxy fumes and losing track of time as I carefully placed guinea hen feathers and buttons on bridal hair combs. Though I also made a few headbands, my focus was held by the subtle differences between downy under-feathers and larger plumes, the way the light catches a small red button held against a giant black one. It was glorious.

Thankfully, I also had an amazing night out both Friday and Saturday to counter-balance all of this hardcore craft-nerd time.

I plan to bring these with me to the April 26th Art Attack in Jersey City, so if you are interested you are just going to have to pay me a visit! Check out the craft mafia web site for more info on the craft fair.

Preparing for the LITM craft show this weekend. I've made a few feathery hair things, stapled a pile of zines, and ordered lots of copies of my CD-r from Monotone Records, but I am proudest of these vintage linen pillows sewn from rescued flea market remnants in fantastic shape. They are luxurious and took a lot of pressing and detail work.

I'm also pretty stoked on my banner, even if I DID get epoxy on it this weekend. Argh.

Anyway, wishing I didn't have to do my real job for the rest of this week because I'm so excited for the craft fair! I can't wait to stamp out some tags for pricing, and figure out how I'm going to bag my wares! See you at the show (pretend I just sang that at you like I am the lead singer in a pop punk band)!
